Overview
Available in the mid-game but essential in the late-game this is the most powerful cruiser available to the Covenant, the CCS-class is an excellent escort craft. Unlike the larger CAS-class assault carrier and the more aggressively deployed CPV-class heavy destroyer, the battlecruiser serves in a somewhat intermediary role: a fully weaponized warship with the ability to apply meaningful military deployment. It's arguably the most powerful non-capital ship vessel in the game.
History
Since the beginning of the Covenant, the battlecruiser has consistently been the hegemony's primary mode of intragalactic transportation. For the centuries leading up to the Human-Covenant War, the CCS was involved in every major event in the Covenant's history, including both peace and conflict. Countless CCS-class battlecruisers were used during the Human-Covenant War in operations ranging from fleet engagements to glassing. They were considered among the most dangerous of Covenant ships and often spearheaded invasions. The warships have been utilized frequently by Covenant Supreme Commanders to great effectiveness, being responsible for more UNSC casualties than any other vessel in the Covenant fleet.
With the fallout of the Covenant's client species, CCS' became highly prized and fell into a number of hands, most notably the Swords of Sangheilios and Jul 'Mdama's Storm Covenant factions. However, in the case of the Pious Inquisitor, they were even found in the hands of Human Insurrectionists, though the one mentioned was destroyed before it could be used against the UNSC.
Weapons and Tactical Usage
The excessive supply cost and build time for these ships makes them poor choices over the CRS-class or CPV-class destroyers as the bulk of your fleet. In fact, they really are capital-class vessels, used to escort more fragile but powerful capitals which require defense, such as the DDS and the DOS in pitch battles. Indeed, in the hands of an experienced player, small groups led by an Assault Carrier can raid undefended UNSC colonies and flee before the counterattack arrives, distracting them from the real attack.
