The Gladius-class heavy corvette is a light escort ship in service to the United Nations Space Command.
It excels in fleet support and scouting duties.
Overview[]
« | Purely a patrol and security vessel of small stature, Gladius corvettes hold an important role in UNSC defense fleets due to their extensive sensor suites and incredible speed. However, their weapons are outclassed by the majority of other warships. The Gladius' shipyard description

History[]
A small, slipspace-capable warship, the 243-meter-long Gladius-class heavy corvette is outfitted with an extensive sensor suite that uses a combination of laser and radar scanners for actively detecting and tracking targets, while monitoring surrounding space for anomalous energy sources.
During the Human-Covenant War, the Gladius-class heavy corvette were used by UNSC Navy battle groups assigned to the Inner Colonies. As they are substantially outgunned by most Covenant warships, Gladius-class corvettes rarely participate in major fleet engagements.
Weapons and Tactical Usage[]
This is the main strikecraft counter for all UNSC admirals. While Hood's Stalwart-class light frigate is generally superior, the Gladius can perform much of the same role and costs less than the Stalwart. It is agile, very fast, and cheap. If dealing with an enemy making strong use of carrier bomber squadrons, a number of Gladius-classes is essential to preserving the fleet. It can accept the following upgrades:
- Small Target: The Gladius is a small, highly maneuverable target. During battle, the crew can make the most of these attributes to avoid enemy fire that would otherwise annihilate the tiny craft.
- Gives the ship a significant evasion bonus.
- Advanced Sensors: The Gladius is equipped with an extensive suite of LADAR and RADAR scanners, allowing it to detect even cloaked targets at short range.
- Allows the ship to expose cloaked ships in a small radius, allowing ships to open fire.
While armed with a very light MAC and a few missiles, these weapons merely exist to help supplement the fleet's firepower and give the ship almost no fighting chance against any other ship thanks to its very low armor. It can, however, be upgraded to detect stealth ships and to give the ship a 40% evasion bonus, making it an excellent hound to sniff out scouts.
