Halcyon-class light cruiser

Halcyon-Class Light Cruiser

The tank of the UNSC fleet. While it doesn't sport the highest of all firepower, it certainly has a lot of hull points as well as armor to take even the most powerful of shots. A requirement to have when fighting large battles especially against the Covenant for sustainability.

History

First designed by Dr. Robert Mclees in 2510 the Halcyon-Class Light Cruiser, the smallest ship to be classified as 'cruiser', has a sorted history with the UNSC. Featuring only one MAC and 180 Archer Missiles the Halcyon was quickly taken out of services due to concerns about it's tactic usability, it's cost and it's speed. It's only defining feature was the five hexagonal and octagonal sections that made up this ship super structure. This feature gave the ship a very high tolerance for pain however even with the unique super structure the Halcyon was outclassed in almost every way by the Marathon-class, its successor vessel.

When the war with the Covenant started the UNSC need as many ships as they could get and so many Halcyons were put back into service. Many of the class got major refits, like the Pillar of Autumn, which effectively turned a very ineffective ship into one of the most effective, and likely expensive ships, the UNSC had to offer. These refitted ships, the Pillar of Autumn in particular, led the the creation of the Autumn-Class Heavy Cruiser.

Weapons and Tactical Usage

The Halcyon is equipped with a standard MAC much like the Charon-class light frigate. However it has a Hyperion missile for an extra 1200 damage in the opening barrage. This missile is on a longer cooldown than a MAC but it's a nice punch to have. Best used in groups of 10 to 20 surrounded by a much larger group of frigates and destroyers.
