Line offensive cruiser - A combat-focused refit of the standard Halcyon, this cruiser focuses on a sustainable mid-level damage output.

« It's nice, having more than six archer pods onboard.

The Halcyon-class "Refit" Cruiser is a mainline warship in service to the United Nations Space Command.

It excels in general combat and fleet support.

Overview[]

« These sturdy cruisers were manufactured without the original honeycomb internals but trade long-term survivability with greater effective offensive weaponry and versatility.

History[]

After the original eleven Halcyons, the second group of cruisers were simplified to be cheaper and easier to manufacture by removing the internal honeycomb bracings. Later in the war, however, these simplified cruisers became the subjects of extensive refit programs. These ships could be refitted much easier and faster with incredibly improved offensive capabilities. While still slow to maneuver, these ships provide unrivaled, cost-efficient firepower on a somewhat sturdy frame.

Weapons and Tactical Usage[]

The Refit forms a compromise between the durability of the previous Halcyon pattern (which it does not replace in-game) and the firepower of the Marathon-class all while not taking up a capital slot. They have lighter weaponry than the Marathon and the same hull points, but an extra armor point and don't require any capital crew. Compared to the original Halcyon, meanwhile, it is less tanky, more expensive and requires more fleet supply but brings a lot more firepower in all forms. Arguably they have the best damage of all non-capital ships. They also benefit from all major weapons upgrades including those for coilgun batteries.

They have no special abilities, but arguably they need none to be simple yet excellent bread-and-butter ships in mid-late game once most of the research has been completed, although it is senseless and expensive to rush their development too early on. These ships are not as good for tanking as their unmodified brethren, but they fight well together and mix well with any combat fleet. It benefits from some of the same upgrades as the original as well as coilgun upgrades.

Trivia[]

Heavily based on the refitted Pillar of Autumn's design as seen in Halo: Reach, this "refit" also form stars in some of the Halo comics such as Halo: Escalation.
